Dear Members & friends,
The holy month of Ramadhan fell in July this year, so it was a quiet month at the Club. We also took a month’s break from sailing at the Club in July in order to participate in the Kenya Laser Championships at Kilifi & the photos & results are at www.mombasayachtclub.org or on our Mombasa Yacht Club Facebook page.
In the last few days the weather has become warmer & everybody is smiling again, so we are starting to plan for social events at the Club in September. Fehmida now chairs our Entertainment Committee & she is looking for volunteers. If you would like to help please ring her at 0738 228058. It is time to come & rejoin your friends for Club Night on Wednesday evenings & I have attached Adda’s delicious menus for August.
Please also bring your family for lunch at weekends & enjoy our beautiful gardens & the magnificent swimming pool (which is now getting warmer….!!). The new sailing season started on 1st August & racing starts at 5pm on Wednesdays as usual, while weekend racing changes to Sundays with the start at 2.30pm this season. We now have a variety of Clubs boats for hire, which are suitable for beginners & advanced sailors, at only shs 500/= per race (which includes rigging), or alternatively you can rig your own boat & help de-rig & clean all the boats after the race & sail for FREE. This free option is specifically aimed at your children (aged 12 to 18) who wish to learn to sail & every effort will be made to make them feel at home & we will find them crew berths & give them sail training to get them started. Please contact our Managers Christine or Eric on the Club mobile 0729 396563, or at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested. We have a large stock of new Lifejackets which are provided free of charge.
Our thanks to our Corporate Members, particularly Kenya Marine Contractors, who continue to come for lunch daily & support the Club. We will be changing the menu’s soon, so if you would like to include your favourite dish please talk to Eric or Christine when you next come to the Club. We have not yet increased the price of our drinks to reflect the increases made in the budget in June because we are starting to paying VAT on 1st September. We will therefore wait to see how the introduction of VAT affects us, but we hope to be able to keep our food & drink prices unchanged until the end of the year.
