End of February 2013

Dear Members,

1. As a lot of our staff have homes outside Mombasa where they have registered to vote the Club will remain closed on voting day 4th March.

2. COVERING THE COST OF RUNNING THE CLUB IN 2013.
In our end January Newletter we asked for members views by email on our proposals to cover the cost of running the Club in 2013. The idea of a Facilities Fee was not popular & perceived to be too high & discriminatory & several members proposed that we increase subscriptions by a lesser amount.

Your Committee has accepted this recommendation & decided to increase Subscriptions by 15% w.e.f. 1st March 2013.

The consequence of this decision is that we will have to raise approximately shs 1 million from monthly profits before we can buy the new Card Payment System, so this project will now have to be put back until 2014, particularly as our priority at present at present is to build a 20,000 litre underground water storage tank as our wells are struggling to cope with the watering of the gardens.

3. SAILING.
The new halyards for the Club Bosun’s & 420’s are arriving this week, which will greatly improve the reliability of these boats. All that remains now is to purchase new sails, after which they should become more attractive for Sail Training & more competitive for handicap racing.

Please note that Teddy Ndaro, our qualified RYA Sail Trainer is continuing to offer individual lesson in Bosun’s, 420’s & Laser’s at the Club at very competitive prices. If you would like more information about this please ring Teddy at 0700 832474. A course makes a wonderful Birthday present for Teenagers interested in learning to sail during the school holidays & once they reach level RYA level 3 they can start racing with the members on Wed afternoons at 5pm & on Saturday afternoons at 3pm. We also need more Adults to learn to sail, so if you have any friends that are interested please bring them to the Club so we may may make them feel welcome.

Your sincerely,

COMMODORE.
